A buffer (whether rented or purchased) is recommended for maintenance with an oil finished floor.

After 6 months of wear inspect your floors carefully to see if the finish looks dull or worn. If this condition exists, wipe the floor clean with a damp, well wrung our cotton cloth, dampened with water. Dry off with a clean dry cotton cloth. Next, wipe on oil finish with a small cloth dipped in the finish, well wrung out, lightly coating the floor, follow by wiping off with a clean dry cotton cloth. DO SMALL AREAS AT A TIME.

Food spills should be wiped up promptly before they become sticky or hard, using a slightly water dampened cloth. Wipe up water spills with a clean dry towel.

Oil finish requires regular maintenance to maintain the beauty and durability.

Boatright Hardwood Floors uses Dura Seal products. Dura Seal Liquid Wax and Dura Seal Paste Wax. Follow the manufacturers recommendations for using these products.

A buffer (whether rented or purchased) is recommended for maintenance with a wax-finished floor.

Don't overwax. Re-buff and re-buff again before waxing. Spills should be wiped up promptly before they become sticky or hard. Wipe up food spills with a damp, well wrung out cloth. Dry off afterwards. If an area appears dull after a wipe up, apply a small amount of past wax to that area and machine or hand buff out.

Never pour water directly on the floor or allow water to lay directly on the surface of the floor. This can cause the wood to swell or buckle.

Dry mop the floor with a soft cotton cloth. When necessary it is suggested that you use Bona Swedish Formula Floor Cleaner or Squeaky Clean Floor Cleaner. These products do not need to be rinsed off nor will they leave a oily residue.

Boatright Hardwood Floors does NOT recommend:

  • Oil Soaps
  • Wax
  • Future
  • Mop-n-Glo
  • Endust
  • Vinyl floor wax
  • Pine Sol
  • Other household cleaners
  • Soap
  • Ammonia based cleaners

These tend to leave an oily residue which can make your floors very slippery. This oily residue would also prevent Boatright Hardwood Floors from screening and recoating your floors with polyurethane in the future. Polyurethane will not stick to any waxy substance.

Periodically, you may “tack-rag” (a cloth wrapped around a push broom_or wipe your floor with a thoroughly wrung out cloth that has been dipped in water only.

Cleaning urine: wipe the area with a damp rung out cloth that has been dipped into a gallon of water with ½ cup white vinegar added. Dry area afterwards.

Check high traffic pattern areas: Before the finish is worn to raw wood, have floors re-coated with polyurethane.
